Within this legendary hotel, a favorite for arts lovers, resounds the soul of all great artists who ever stayed there.
"Loving is nothing. Being loved is everything. I love the Pléiades" wrote the great Mistinguett. Today, like yesterday, the same enthusiasm is found in all the notes signed by various great names. With humour, Sacha Guitry signed after each stay: "nothing to say, except see you tomorrow, madame". “It feels like home" noted film maker Bertrand Tavernier.
This comes as no surprise: since 1830, les Pléiades have always had a bohemian aura and a magical feel.
That year, the hotel, a modest village home, became the property of painter Charles Daubigny. If walls could speak, they would recount the meetings between the famous artists of that time: Diaz, Descamps, Corot, Millet, Rousseau, Stevenson, all fierce and free men, filled with talent and boldness, motivated by their need to create, looking for inspiration in nature, in the light, in the peasant men and women whose movements they managed to capture for eternity, stewards of the earth and of our ancestors values. Millet immortalized them beautifully in his "Angélus".
These passionate artists set the small typical French village of Barbizon on fire, and the burning passion soon caught the attention of the entire world! Today, it still burns in the Pléiades' interior gardens: "Flamme" is one of the most admired sculptures by Mélanie Quentin. It represents a loving couple, made of bronze, embracing one another and symbolizing desire and love: the two essential ingredients for creativity, which makes us all artists of our own lives.Â
This entirely renovated house is yours to enjoy and we are here to make sure you do. |
